The inspiration for this mother of the bride outfit was the "something borrowed, something blue" tradition. I envisioned the bride's mother sharing something blue with her daughter, and also wearing blue herself on this extremely special day. I thought the dress cut and color were very current yet classic, and very flattering on most women. Congratulations to the bride and her mother!
I chose the all-girl rock/riot grrrl band Sleater-Kinney for my Katharine Polk rock & roll style set. Sleater-Kinney finds a great balance between femininity/androgeny, retro/current, and soft/hard-tough. They look as current today as when they disbanded, utilizing lots of funky and retro jackets and blazers, embellished tops, and old school footwear, all of which is popular this fall. I love how they each own their style and don't feel the need to conform to a classic "rock" or "punk" look.
